MANILA — The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) was granted four Guinness World Records during its New Year’s revelry on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.
In a statement, the influential sect said it was awarded for the largest paying audience for a movie premiere (for the Felix Manalo movie); the most number of sparklers lit in relay; the most number of sparklers lit simultaneously; and the largest fireworks display.
The announcement for the first record was given in the evening of Dec. 31 while the three other recognitions were given early morning of Jan. 1 by Christina Conlon, official adjudicator of Guinness World Records.
The fireworks display lasted an hour from Thursday midnight to 1 a.m. Friday.
Last October, the INC also set two Guinness World Records – Largest Attendance for a Film Screening and Largest Attendance for a Film Premiere at the premiere showing of the Felix Manalo movie, with more than 43,000 people in attendance at the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
According to Edwil Zabala, INC spokesperson, some 2,000 participants took part in the lighting sparklers event.
On the other hand, he said that employees of the fireworks company, which he did not mention, were in charge of the firing.
Incidentally, the Philippine Arena holds two world records of its own — World’s Largest Indoor Arena and World’s Largest Mixed-Used Indoor Theater. PNA/northboundasia.com
