Ilocos village chair nabbed for selling illegal drugs

CAMP DIEGO SILANG – An Ilocos village chair, accused of engaging in the illegal drug trade, was arrested by lawmen when he was caught in abuy-bust or sting operation last October 24.

Ilocos Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director Jeoffrey C. Tacio disclosed that a composite team of the regional office of PDEA and the local police arrested 35- year old Boyet G. Geronimo, alias “Bagets”, in Barangay Bolaoit, Malasiqui, Pangasinan. He is the incumbent chair of Barangay Potiocan in Malasiqui.

Intelligence reports showed that Geronimo has been distributing illegal drugs to nearby Barangays,

“Geronimo is the 4th Ilocos village chair arrested since President Duterte launched the campaign against illegal drugs,” Drector Tacio said saying that the apprehenion confirmd that that several elected leaders are involved in the illegal drug trade.

It was learned that on August 10 and 14, Roger Sibayan, Barangay Chair of Barangay Rissing, Luna, La Union and Al Aguibay of Barangay Virvira, Carasi, Ilocos Norte were arrested, respectively, for the same crime. Lamberto Villa, barangay chair of of Pangasinan and known
leader of the Dawis Drug Group was killed when he attempted to shoot law enforcers who were serving a search warrant in his house last September 21 in Barangay Tayambani, San Carlos City.

Geronimo was formally charged for violating of Sections 5 for selling a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment. Bismarck Bengwayen/
