ILOCOS SUR LAWMEN SCORE IN “ONE TIME, BIG TIME” OPERATION

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur –Ilocos Sur police operatives seized several sachets of illegal drugs and loose firearms in their three – day “one time, big time holiday” operation on November 7 – 9.

Senior Superintendent Nestor E. Felix, the Ilocos Sur Police Director, said that their 17 operations they conducted in various towns in the province within a three – day period resulted to the confiscation of 90 heat – sealed plastic sachets of shabu; and one plastic bag and 10 plastic sachets of dried marijuana leaves and fruitings from 27 suspected drug personalities.

A total of seven loose firearms, three hand grenades, one rifle grenade and 117 bullets were captured from three persons.

The 27 persons arrested in the anti – illegal drug operations were charged in court for violation of RA 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while the three others were indicted for violation of RA 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.”

“We achieved this accomplishment through the implementation of six search warrants and nine illegal drug buy-bust operations,” Felix said.

“The “One Time, Big Time Huliday” operation is a continuing activity as one of the initiatives of the entire police force of the country under the present flagship program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) against criminality called as “Lambat Sibat,” he explained.

To intensify intelligence networks in the province’s villages through the “Lambat Sibat” program, Felix initiated their teaming – up to the group of bikers in Metro Vigan led by city councilor Bendicto Jose  Verzosa.

“We formalized our partnership recently after we signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Verzosa, the president of the Vigan Cycling Maniacs, in a simple rite infront of our police provincial headquarters,” he said.

The Vigan Cycling Maniacs is composed of members residing in Metro- Vigan involving Vigan City and the towns of Caoayan, Bantay, San Vicente and Santa Catalina.

Intially, the cycling group started the “Bisikletahan 2015” traversing the villages of the towns of Ilocos Sur located along the national road as part of the information and dessimination of the programs of the “Oplan: Lambat Sibat.”

“Aside from helping us in the information – dessimination campaign against criminality in the community, this group of bikers will inform us about any emergencies that need immediate police assistance and services,” Felix said. PNA
