LAOAG CITY — The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office in cooperation with the Provincial Government is set to conduct a multi-sectoral anti-illegal drugs summit to formulate policies in support of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war.
Set on Sept. 21,around 20 inter-government agencies and organizations including the Sirib Ilokano Kabataan Association, Rotary Club of Laoag-Ilocos Norte and the Diocese of Laoag are expected to attend this first of a kind summit in the province to be held at the Plaza Del Norte Hotel and Convention Center here.
Highlights of the activity include the signing of a memorandum of understanding defining the specific roles and each agency and organization, drafting of specific plans, guidelines and procedures in support of a drug-free province declaration before the end of this year and the passage of relevant resolutions and ordinances to strengthen the nationwide anti-illegal drugs campaign.
Since the June 30 assumption of Pres. Duterte, a total of 215 drug-affected barangays out of the 557 in the province were subjected to a series operations and validation.
Of the identified barangays under the priority list of the Provincial Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, around 603 drug pushers and users were on the target lists.
As of Aug. 31, a total of 5,505 drug personalities, however, have surrendered based on police report.
The PNP said the overwhelming number of surrendered drug pushers and users was not anticipated but it shows a strong support from the community. PNA/northboundasia.com
