SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Some 50 beneficiaries in this city were given mobile food carts each and cash money in a livelihood program by the Department of Social Welfare and Development last Wednesday during a ceremony held Wednesday at the Ortega Gym In Barangay Catbangen here.
The livelihood for the city’s low-income residents is under the welfare agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program, in collaboration with the city government and Lyceum Enterprises, a private firm. The cash assistance amounting to P3,000 will be used to buy frozen foods that the recipients will peddle around the city in their mobile food carts.
Leyum Enterprises had earlier provided the food carts and several equipment including training on entrepreneurship and skills for the recipients. The city government will help them process their business permits, according to Jacqueline Estrada, field development project officer of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD).
The activities were graced by City Mayor Hermenegildo ‘Dong’ Gualberto; Sally Matoza, CSWD officer, Christopher Ollero, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program provincial link; Merlina Gadrinab, general manager of Leyum Enterprises; Chad Everrett Llanes, provincial coordinator; and Agnes Tambalo, regional program coordinator.
It was learned that for the past several months, the business firm under its livelihood “Pantawid” program has provided 80 and 50 mobile food carts, respectively, to recipients in Urdaneta City, and Rosales, Pangasinan. Erwin Beleo/NPN-northboundasia.com
