IMUS CITY, Cavite — Fire struck an informal settlement of some 100 families in Barangay Palico 4 here and displaced hundreds of residents around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The fire which originated a stone’s throw-away from the Perpetual Village subdivision main entrance here razed around 50 to 60 houses made of light materials.
According to Imus City chief of police Superintendent Norman Ranon, who headed a police team of first responders to the area, the fire reached 2nd alarm but was declared “under control” at 10:14 a.m.
Imus Fire Marshall Senior Fire Officer Rodelio Tamayo said quick response operations from the combined fire units of the cites of Imus, Bacoor, Dasmariňas and Kawit.
He said fire volunteers from the city’s barangays and Rosario, Cavite have prevented the fire to spread further and cause damage to nearby locations.
No casualty was reported. However, fire damage was estimated at PHP100,000.
Two residents were injured in the fire incident and given first aid, according to the city disaster risk reduction and management office here.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Fire Officer 1 Melchor A. Dangan said the origin of the fire was traced in the bedroom of the house of Angie Batalan.
Around 90 families or 383 affected residents are temporarily housed at the covered court of Palico 4 as evacuation center.
City social welfare and disaster units are currently on site to provide food packs and medical assistance to the victims. Gladys Pino/PNA – northboundasia.com
