HRAB to bring 30 Miss Universe contestants to Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY –- Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) president and Baguio Country Club (BCC) general manager Anthony de Leon, in a press conference on Wednesday, November 2 said Baguio City will host 30 of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant contestants in January 2017 through the efforts of HRAB.

De Leon said HRAB will have to raise PhP15 million to be able to bring the candidates to Baguio City for one full day of the three-day beauty contest.

De Leon said the amount required by the pageant organizers is apart from the amount to be spent for a chartered travel from the Philippine venue to Baguio City and accommodations.

The other contestants of the pageant will also visit other places in the country on the same day 30 of the more than 100 participants are in Baguio City.

While in Baguio City, the contestants will be treated to a short tour to a few places of interest in the city, a meet and greet and golf tournament at the BCC.

The contestants will also have a mini fashion show at the BCC.

De Leon said the visit of some of the contestants to Baguio City will again highlight the Philippines’ summer capital in the tourism industry internationally.

The 65th Miss Universe winners will be crowned on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

It will be the third time for the Philippines to host the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant — the first (23rd pageant) was in 1974 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), and the second in 1994 (43rd) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). Jojo Lamaria/PNA-northboundasia.com
