MANILA — The House of Representatives’ Justice Committee will invite all Supreme Court (SC) justices to shed light on the allegation that Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno falsified several en banc resolutions.
The committee approved Dinagat Islands Rep. Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao’s motion to extend an invitation to all SC justices to attend the impeachment proceedings against the country’s top magistrate.
The Justice Committee is currently deliberating on whether there is probable cause in the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Larry Gadon.
The panel earlier found the complaint to be sufficient in form, substance, and grounds.
Sereno is accused of having allegedly falsified resolutions that were never approved by the magistrates.
Among the resolutions in question includes the re-opening of the Cebu-based Regional Court Administration Office in 2012.
Sereno earlier said, in her verified reply submitted to the justice committee, that she did not falsify any resolution or issuance of the high court.
“Resolutions of the SC En Banc are drafted based solely on the notes of the Chief Justice… For obvious reasons, the Chief Justice cannot ‘falsify’ her own notes,” the reply read. PNA-northboundasia.com
