‘Habagat’ displaced families now at 238,324

MANILA — Although the “habagat” or southwest monsoon episode in the country has weakened, the number of families displaced by heavy rains and floods has climbed to 238,324.

This is equivalent to 1,096,581 persons, according to the 8:00 p.m. Thursday advisory of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

These affected individuals are mostly residing in Regions I, III, CALABARZON, VI, National Capital Region and Cordillera Autonomous Region.

A total of 2,476 families or 9,787 persons are still housed inside 103 designated evacuation centers.

Death toll for this year’s “habagat” episode still stands at 14 with eight missing and five injured.
