Governor hails Pangasinan student for bagging 2nd place in ASEAN Quiz

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino III on Tuesday congratulated a Pangasinense student who was among three members of the Philippine team that won 1st runner-up in the 7th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Friendly Group Quiz Competition held on Aug. 22-26 in Vientiane, Laos.

The governor extended his congratulations to Nadine Margaret Alejo, a 10th grader at the St. Albert the Great School (SAGS) in Dagupan City, who called on him at the provincial Capitol. Alejo was among the three students who represented the country. The other two were from Cagayan and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The 16-year-old Alejo was accompanied by her coach and school principal when she met with the governor. She said she was very happy and proud of her achievement. It was her first time to join an international competition.

The girl said she is thankful that the Philippine team made it to 1st runner-up as she vowed to do better next time.

Meanwhile, Vic Agbayani, Alejo’s coach, said this is the fifth time that his school, the SAGS, has produced a smart student who has made it to the national and international tilt. The first was way back in 2002.

For her part, School Principal Adelaida Carvajal lauded the student and her coach for making it to the international competition.

As a show of support, a cash incentive was given by the governor to Alejo.
