Gov. Espino says family jubilant over President Duterte’s clearing of father’s name on NBP drug matrix

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Governor Amado “Pogi” Espino III said his whole family is happy over the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday clearing his father and namesake, Fifth District Congressman Amado Espino Jr. of involvement in the alleged National Bilibid Prison (NBP) matrix earlier made public by the Chief Executive.

The younger Espino, who succeeded his father as governor of Pangasinan in July this year, said his mother and siblings as well as their relatives were happy when they watched on television Mr. Duterte’s public apology to some, including former Governor Espino, personalities involved in the drug matrix.

Interviewed by newsmen on the sideline of the Provincial Anti-Rabies Summit in connection with the observance of World Anti-Rabies Day today at Sison Auditorium, Espino said he believes that the President is sincere in clearing his father, saying “it is difficult for any person to say “sorry”.

In a speech before law enforcers and officials when he visited a newly busted drug laboratory in Arayat, Pampanga on Wednesday, President Duterte said he was “very sorry” over the inclusion of Governor Espino, former Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan and Second District Board Member Raul Sison in the drug matrix he made public sometime in August.

Asked if his father has a plan of knowing who was the one responsible for including him (congressman Espino) in the alleged drug matrix made public by the President, the governor said “of course the congressman wants to know who may have wanted to destroy his honor.

“But for now, we in the family are all happy that our father’s name has been finally cleared. We were all saddened before but now, everybody is jumping with joy,”

He said, “Mr. President, thank you!”

He said now that his father is finally cleared in this drug matrix mess by President Duterte himself, the more he will continue his resolve to finally eradicate the drug menace in the province.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim said the clearing of name of one of their colleagues, Board Member Raul Sison, by President Duterte on his supposed involvement in the NBP drug matrix was never doubted by the provincial board.

Calimlim said the provincial board passed a resolution expressing its wholehearted support to Sison who was among those mentioned in the supposed NBP drug matrix, along with Congressman Espino and former Provincial Administratod Baraan.

He said as a collegial body, the provincial board knows what its members are doing and believes that Sison was not into illegal drugs.

Sison , he said, jumped with joy when he heard the President clear his name over the alleged NBP drug matrix.
