MANILA — Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday said he is supporting the Department of Justice (DOJ) in its move to reinvestigate the misuse of the multi-billion peso Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
“I support the move of the Department of Justice to re-investigate the PDAF and DAP. After all of these years, the terms “PDAF” and “DAP” are still synonymous with corruption and abuse of power,” Gatchalian said in a statement.
He said the Filipino people deserve to find out who else should be held accountable.
“The Filipino people continue to demand that the people responsible for these scams be held accountable for their sins against the nation,” he added.
He further said that it was “unfortunate” that these demands were “ignored” by the previous administration under Pres. Benigno Aquino III.
He said the reinvestigation of the scams could be a good opportunity for DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III to prove his critics wrong.
“This is the perfect opportunity for the embattled Secretary of Justice to prove his critics wrong and deliver the justice the people continue to clamor for,” Gatchalian said.
He, meanwhile, expressed confidence that the DOJ probe will be “thorough, objective, and fearless” and disregard political affiliations.
On Tuesday, Aguirre announced that the DOJ has started their reinvestigation on the multi-billion peso pork barrel fund scam.
The DOJ has created a special task force to revisit the scam and correct the “miscarriage of justice” in the earlier probe conducted by the previous administration. Azer Parrocha/PNA-northboundasia.com
