Gasoline tanker explodes in Aurora town; driver, helper escape flames

MARIA AURORA, Aurora — A gasoline tanker exploded Tuesday along the Pantabangan-Aurora road, Barangay Dianawan, here and its driver and helper were able to escape before the rig burst into flame.

The Petron gasoline tanker, with plate no. CXK220 and owned by Violago Enterprises, was traversing along the Sierra Madre mountain at the portion of the Aurora-Pantabangan Highway from Nueva Ecija at around 10 a.m. when it lost control while moving on descending position and hit two stores.

“The big rig, carrying 20,000 liters of gas bumped the souvenir stores beside the mountain,” said Police Senior Inspector Bayani A. Balbuena, Maria Aurora Police Station (MAPS), chief of police.

Balbuena explained the friction due to strong impact ignited to blaze which caused explosion and walloped the truck of fire.

The souvenir stores owned by Joel Yucaddi and Sheryl Mondaquing were damaged.

On the other hand, Florencio Caballero, 61, gasoline tanker driver, sustained slight physical injury while helper Melvin Santos, 26, collapsed due to nervous breakdown. They were brought to hospital for treatment.

It took firefighters more than an hour to control the blaze, which was put out by 11:45 a.m. but still manned by Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel for road safety and security. PNA/northboundasia.com
