CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A 56-year-old furniture maker was killed when a tree that he and his companions were cutting down with a chain saw fell on them in Sitio Inmayos, Barangay Dagup, Bagulin, La Union, while two others injured at about 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union police information officer, identified the fatality as Jaime N. Valdez, Sr., 56. Salvador S. Amparo, 33, and one unidentified companion, residents of Barangay Nagyubuyuban, San Juan town, sustained severe and mild injuries, respectively.
According to Senior Inspector Nestor C. Juanbe, Bagulin police chief, the three were done cutting the tree, locally known as “apnit, “when the timber came down in full force and hit them even if they instinctively scampered away.
Valdez was hit on the head and back of his body and was dead-on-the-spot as per report of attending physician Anthony Cereno, municipal health officer of the Rural Health Unit of Bagulin.
Amparo and the identified person were taken by personnel of the La Union Rescue PDRRMC to the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center (ITRMC).
Valdez was a former barangay chairman of his village.
The accident area is located in the boundary between Nagyubuyuban, San Juan and Sitio Inmayos, Barangay Dagup, Bagulin, La Union. Erwin Beleo/Northbound Philippines News
