Former Village Chair Nabbed For Rape, Illegal Possession of Firearms

BANGAR, La Union – Policemen here led by Chief Inspector Rogelio Miedes Jr, the chief of police, arrested two most wanted persons, one of whom is a rape suspect who was also caught with guns and grenade, in separate implementation of arrest warrants yesterday.

Miedes identified the rape suspect as Onofre Sabado, 50, former chairman of his barangay in Luzong Sur this town.

The police also found in Sabado’s possession an M-16 rifle with two magazines and 45 bullets, a cal.38 revolver, a fragmentation grenade, and nine bullets for cal.357.

Sabado is the number two most wanted persons in Bangar for allegedly raping a step-daughter last year. No bail was recommended for his arrest.

Miedes said Sabado did not resist when policemen went on to serve the warrant against him.

Earlier, Miedes and his men also arrested Salvador Macuroy, 58, a resident of Barangay Alzate this town, who was wanted for frustrated murder with recommended bail of P200,000.

Macuroy was the number nine in the wanted list of Bangar police.

The warrants for both Sabado and Macuroy were issued by Judge Manuel Aquino of the Regional Trial Court Branch 34 in Balaoan, La Union. Jun Elias/Northbound Philippines News
