FISHERMAN SWAM SIX MILES IN FIVE DAYS TO SURVIVE

CITY OF CAUAYAN — Exhausted and almost dehydrated, a fisherman had endured a six-mile swim in five days to survive when the outrigger boat they were riding in with his two relatives sunk due to strong waves in coastal Palanan, Isabela, a kinswoman said on Tuesday.

Robert Bacas was found slumped at the seashore by fellow fishermen in San Ildefonso, Casiguran, Aurora province.

Carmela Soriano said her brother-in-law Bacas was helped by Agta natives when he was moored by waves in Masagana village in Dilasag, Aurora.

Bacas’ two companions — Custodio Soriano (Carmela’s husband) and another relative, Rico Jersalia, have remained missing.

Carmela had sought media’s help after her husband Custodio and their two relatives failed to go home for 11 days after going out to fish in Palanan sea on January 21 this year. PNA/northboundasia.com
