Filipinos expect changes under Duterte administration

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan -— The more than 100 million Filipinos are expecting changes to happen in the country after Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte took his oath today as the 16th President of the Philippines.

“Ang expectation natin ay pagbabago. Ang hinahanap natin ay tunay na pagbabago. Kung ano yung batas, dapat pinapairal yan ng walang pinipili at pantay-pantay (The expectation that we hope is change. What we are looking is real change. What is in the law should be enforced to all fairly),” said Mangaldan Councilor Bernave Cervas.

Meanwhile, 48-year-old tricycle driver, Jimmy Abedoza, wants the new administration to focus on clearing the government from corruption, and strengthening peace and order in the country.

As for Benjamin San Juan, Mangaldan Administrative Aide III, “My expectations perhaps are on peace and order, progress, change.”

Federico Limon, a sari-sari store owner also in Mangaldan town, said he expects President Duterte to fight illegal drugs and put all users into jail.

SPO4 Vicente Abrazaldo, Municipal Executive Senior Police Officer (MESPO), believes that the Chief Executive will be able to make Philippines a drug-free country. “Ngayon na presidente na si Duterte, marami nang sumusurrender na drug addict. Dito sa Pangasinan, continuous yung operation namin sa drugs. Marami na rin kaming nahuli,” he said.

In order to help Mr. Duterte in improving the country, Ade Cabobos, a college student, said, “Sumunod tayo sa mga panukalang ipapatupad ng administrasyon at maging disiplinado sa sarili.”

Limon said people should start within their own barangays. “Siguro sa drugs matutulungan natin siya kung tayong nasa barangay mismo, mag-umpisa na isumbong kung sino yung mga addict sa lugar natin. Magkaroon tayo ng citizen arrest,” he said.

“Tulungan natin para maganda yung flow ng projects niya (Duterte),” Limon added.

According to the newly-elected Mangaldan Councilor Arnel Fabia, it will be a big help to inform the authorities once there are illegal activities happening in their areas. PNA/
