FILIPINO SEAMAN GOES MISSING ABOARD LIBERIAN-FLAGGED SHIP IN GENSAN

MANILA  — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday said that it continues to search for a Filipino seafarer who went missing aboard Liberian-registered container vessel M/V Hansan Rotenburg.

PCG said that Ordinary Seaman (OS) Louie Janus Caòon was reported missing last Wednesday (Nov 11). Caòon’s was called for duty, but the victim was nowhere to be found.

The coast guard also said that the ship board search also yielded negative results. M/V Hansan Rotenburg changed her course and conducted search and rescue operations, but also yielded negative results.

Coordination was also done with the Coast Watch South based in Zamboanga to seek further assistance for search and rescue operations.

The vessel proceeded to her next port of call in Makar Wharf, General Santos while the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) GenSan advised its master to file a Marine Protest to report the missing crew.

PCG has also sent out a notice to mariners to all vessels transiting in the area to be on the look-out of the missing crew and to report the nearest Coast Guard unit, if sighted. Azer N. Parrocha/PNA
