FESSAP to hold more swimming tryouts for 2017 Universiade

MANILA -– The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) announced Saturday that there will be more tryouts for swimmers who will compete in the 2017 Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei.

FESSAP, through its member Philippine Inter-Schools, Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (PISCUAA), will hold another qualifying tournament this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. Expected to attend are FESSAP officials, namely Deputy Secretary General and Universiade Overall Team Manager Col. Ariel Querubin (ret.), Vice President Dr. Diosdado Amante and Executive Vice President Prof. Robert Milton Calo, who also serves as chairperson of the 2017 Universiade Preparation and Monitoring Committee.

The first qualifying tournament for the National Capital Region was conducted by PISCUAA-Philippine Swimming League last Sept. 17-18 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. The Philippine Sports Commission has allowed the free use of the pool.

Iloilo City will host the Visayas qualifying tournament next month. The competition will be supervised by the FESSAP-accredited club headed by Ivy Santa Ana.

The final qualifying tryouts will be held in Tagum, Zamboanga under the supervision of FESSAP board member Roel Natividad Sr. in November.

The PISCUAA Swimming Working Committee shall evaluate the results of all the qualifying meets and submit its recommendation to the FESSAP Board for final approval.

FESSAP, which is recognized by the Asian University Sports Federation since 2000, is a member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), which coordinates the activities of more than 100 national university sports federations and organizes the Summer and Winter Universiades.
