Fair PHL weather likely this week

MANILA — The country may experience generally fair weather until around Friday (June 16).

Such forecast weather is due to the monsoon break that may last till then, noted weather forecaster Benison Estareja from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are still possible during the period, however, so people must prepare accordingly,” he noted.

He said such rain showers and thunderstorms will most likely occur during afternoons and evenings.

Last month, PAGASA announced onset of the rainy season in the country’s western section.

PAGASA expects Metro Manila and other western Philippine areas to experience “intermittent to continuous” rains and thunderstorms associated with the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’

Near- to above-normal rainfall is possible in most parts of the country this June and July, said PAGASA.

Breaks in such rain events are still possible due to persistence of the ridge of North Pacific high-pressure area, PAGASA clarified.

Estareja noted the North Pacific high-pressure area is dominating at present, paving the way for a monsoon break.

‘Habagat’ is weak during such break, he noted.

In its 24-hour forecast released Tuesday, PAGASA said ridge of a high-pressure area is affecting Luzon.

“Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and rest of the country,” said PAGASA.

It cautioned about “moderate to occasionally rough” coastal waters along Luzon’s western section during the forecast period.

Expected “moderate to occasionally strong” winds from the southwest to south may cause such turbulence there. Catherine Teves/PNA-northboundasia.com
