CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Oct. 16 (PNA) — Former Isabela Governor Maria Gracia Cielo Padaca, a polio-stricken broadcaster, has filed her certificate of candidacy on Thursday at past 3 p.m. as an independent bet, hoping to regain the seat she once held for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2010.
Incumbent Isabela Governor Faustino Dy III earlier filed his CoC on Wednesday under the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Another bet, unheralded Lilia Uy has also filed her CoC for governor on Friday, Oct. 16, to beat the last-minute filing of her candidacy’s certificate.
Dy earlier won over Padaca for governor in 2010 aside from his victory for congressman over her in 2007. He also won handily over Padaca’s brother, Marlo Angelo Padaca and two other unheralded bets in 2013.
Padaca is a former radio broadcaster who rose to popularity when she defeated a Dy scion, Faustino Jr., in 2004. She was ordered to step down in 2009 after the Comelec had found Benjamin Dy, her opponent in 2007, as the “rightful winner.” However, she appealed the case until the 2010 elections wherein Dy III defeated her.
A former Liberal Party member and ally of President Aquino III, Padaca did not reactivate her membership after she was not reappointed as commissioner of the Commission on Elections from 2012 to 2014 for her failure to get the nod of the Commission on Appointments. (VILLAMOR VISAYA, JR/PNA)
