DAVAO CITY — The youngest of the Duterte siblings pitched for presidential candidate and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and joined vice presidential candidate and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in the kick off of “Ronda Serye” tour in the city’s vote-rich Barangay 76-A in Bucana.
Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who rarely appears in public even during the previous campaigns for his father and siblings, former Mayor Sara and Vice Mayor Paolo, appealed for support to the Duterte-Cayetano tandem.
“I am appealing for your help to vote for my papa, let us vote for him in this coming election,” Baste asked a crowd from the Trading Bucana operators and Drivers Association (TRABUCODA) and Queens Livelihood at the Bucana seawall.
He also asked support for Cayetano who he described as a very humble senator. He recalled meeting Cayetano first in Tagaytay City where the latter gave him his calling card.
“I even have his calling card laminated because it is only rarely that you are given a calling card from a senator,” Baste said, drawing laughter from the crowd.
Baste and Cayetano went around Bucana to personally listen to the concerns of transport groups and fisherfolk there. Cayetano also took the chance to present their tandem’s bold solutions to address the sectors’ daily woes.
“Sawa na ang tao sa araw-araw na pahirap at gulo. Ang kailangan ng mga kababayan nating Dabawenyo ay matapang na solusyon at mabilis na aksyon mula sa isang gobyernong may tapang at malasakit (The people are fed up with the daily hardship and chaos. Dabawenyos need a tough and fast action from a government with courage and dedication),” Cayetano said.
Cayetano also explained his and Duterte’s platform of government, which includes achieving inclusive economic growth through regional and local industry development.
He said they are proposing to allot Php1 billion per region for a capital-lending program for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to help them start or sustain their own businesses.
For the fishing industry, Cayetano said they will push for strategic reforms to crack down on illegal fishing and ensure safe working conditions and fixed wages for hand-line fishermen.
“Under a Duterte-Cayetano government, our fishermen and tricycle drivers, who provide our daily basic needs, will be given the opportunities they deserve. We’ll make sure that in this period of growth, they will not be left behind,” Cayetano assured.
The Duterte-Cayetano tandem plans to conduct similar street tours in other areas to explain their electoral message to create real changes and restore order in the country.
Ronda Serye was launched by Duterte and Cayetano in Binondo, Manila just hours before their proclamation rally on Feb. 9. Duterte and Cayetano presented their electoral message at the grassroots level.
It was also the Duterte-Cayetano team’s way of getting feedback on issues and feeling the pulse of the poor communities and the lowly income earners in Binondo, known to be the center of commerce and trade in Manila, where all types of business run by Filipino-Chinese thrive. Binondo’s influence extends beyond Quiapo, Santa Cruz, and San Nicolas. PNA/northboundasia.com
