MANILA — The camp of PDP-LABAN standard bearer and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte expressed elation over their candidate’s strong performance on the newly-released Standard Today survey poll results which had the former playing a strong second to independent presidential bet Sen. Grace Poe.
“We are happy with the results of the Standard Today Survey covering the period February 24-March 1 or after the first presidential debate and into the 3rd week of the campaign,” Duterte spokesperson Peter Laviña said.
In the Standard Today poll results, Duterte gained four points which landed him in second place with 24 percent of voter preference.
Duterte passed UNA standard bearer Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay who had 23 percent (up 1 percent) and moved closer to Poe whose voter preference fell three points to 26 compared to January figures.
Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas was fourth with 22 percent while People Reform Party Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago lagged with 2 percent.
“We think this mirrors what we are seeing and are happening on the ground,” Laviña said.
This is proof of the rising approval of Duterte’s bid for the presidency and the trust and confidence of our people on his agenda for real change.
“We are glad that more and more of our voters see the genuineness of our call of genuine change and they are rallying under our banner for the safety and prosperity for every Filipino,” Laviña stressed.
The Standard Today survey had 3,000 respondents from 79 provinces and 17 cities of Metro Manila.
All respondents said they were registered voters sure of voting in the May 9 elections. The national margin of error was placed at ±1.8 percent. PNA/northboundasia.com
