DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here has warned retailers, distributors and manufacturers against selling basic commodities higher than the suggested retail prices (SRPs).
Provincial Director Peter Mangabat of DTI-Pangasinan reiterated that selling goods more than the SRPs is an illegal act of price manipulation.
“Any retailer, distributor and manufacturer found to violate the Price Act will be penalized with an administrative fine of up to P2-million with an imprisonment of up to 15 years,” Mangabat said.
He urged consumers to be vigilant when purchasing basic necessities and prime commodities by checking not only the prices but also the quality of the products they buy.
“For updates on the latest SRPs, visit the DTI website: www.dti.gov.ph,” he said.
To report complaints on spike of prices of basic necessities and prime commodities, Mangabat said that consumers can call the DTI-Pangasinan office at telephone numbers (075) 515-3183 or 529-6177. April M. Montes/PIA-1, Pangasinan
