Drug surrenderer killed by riding-in-tandem gunmen in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY — A drug surrenderer was killed by four unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects at Zone 5, Calumpang village, Molo, Iloilo City on Friday.

The victim, Donn Azucena, 39, resident of Barangay North Baluarte, Molo, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in his body, said Chief Inspector Marlon Valencia, chief of police of the Molo Police Station.

He said the victim was just waiting for a public jeepney around 9:30 a.m., together with his wife, when the suspects shot him.

Valencia said the unidentified suspects were on board two motorcycles. The two suspects behind the drivers were the gunmen, he added.

Recovered from the crime scene were 11 empty shells of .45 caliber pistol.

Valencia recalled that Azucena was listed as Level 1 high-value target in Molo but he surrendered during the “Oplan Tokhang” in 2016. “He also underwent rehabilitation,” he said.

Based on their latest monitoring, Azucena is no longer engaged in any illegal drugs activities.

Valencia said they cannot yet determine the motive of the suspects and investigation is still ongoing to identify them.

The policemen are also trying to look for closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed near the crime scene to help identify the suspects.

Valencia added that the suspects fled to separate directions, one towards the City Proper and the other to Arevalo, based on information they gathered from bystanders who saw the crime. Cindy Ferrer/PNA-northboundasia.com
