Drug pusher shot dead in Tarlac City

TARLAC CITY, Philippines — A notorious drug pusher was shot dead yesterday inside his apartment at Block 6, San Roque village here.

SPO4 Wilhelmino Alcantara, Intelligence Officer of the Tarlac City Police Office identified the suspect as Bong Vargas (age not immediately known). Vargas, he said, was in charge in the distribution of the banned methanpethamine hrdrochloride or shabu among drug addict jeepney and tricycle drivers in the city.

He was frequently seen at the City Common Terminal transacting business with his driver clients.

Supt. Bayani M. Razalan claimed that the killing of Vargas was a legitimate police buy-bust operation. “While inside the apartment, the undercover police who acted as buyer saw a 45 cal. tucked in the waist of the suspect. He alerted his back-ups,” he said.

It was learned that when Vargas saw the approaching cops, he shot them but missed. The operatives retaliated with their guns and killed the suspect.

Recovered from Vargas was the gun he used along with empty shells of bullets including the P 500 bill marked money from the previous transaction of the poseur buyer.

Vargas’ accomplice, identified as Oliver Alonzo, a service driver of a call center here, escaped during the shoot out. His apartment nearby has been used as drug den among their driver clients.

Vargas was in the watch list of drug pushers in the Tarlac City PNP. He was the 8th drug pusher killed in Tarlac City since July 1 when the PNP step up its drive against drug pushers. Since the implementation of Oplan Tokhang here three weeks ago, more than one thousand drug dependents have surrendered. Homer Teodoro/
