Drug pusher killed in Ilocos Sur

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – An alleged illegal drug pusher was killed Tuesday in a shoot-out with policemen during a buy-bust operation in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, regional director of Police Regional Office 1, identified the fatality as Leonardo Portela, a resident of Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur.

Sapitula said that joint elements of Ilocos Sur police, the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, and Regional Intelligence Division, conducted the anti-illegal drug operation against Portela.

It was learned that Portela was transacting his trade to a poseur buyer when he sensed that it was a police agent who was buying from him; he drew his firearm and shot the cop twice, but the bullets failed to do damages as the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The backup police team shot Portela several times and was declared dead-on-arrival at a nearby hospital..

The police seized Portela’s homemade 38 caliber pistol with three live ammunition, three sachets of dried marijuana leaves, and P500 buy-bust money. With Erwin Beleo/ Northbound Philippines News
