CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — A drug dealer was killed while the chief of police and two policemen were wounded in a running gun-battle that ensued during an anti-drug operation at the Malolos Crossing in Barangay Guinhawa here early Friday morning.
Bulacan acting police director Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr., said that the slain armed dealer was only identified as alias “Jepoy”, said to be a notorious dope dealer based in nearby Calumpit town.
Caramat said that operatives of the Calumpit police station transacted with the suspect at Malolos crossing junction in Barangay Guinhawa early Friday morning.
During the deal, the suspect sensed a police entrapment, drew his .45 caliber pistol and opened fire at the police operatives.
The suspect ran while shooting at the pursuing lawmen until he reached a residential compound where he knocked on a door asking for help while introducing himself as a policeman.
It was at this juncture when a mobile team from the Malolos City police station headed by Supt. Heryl Bruno arrived and engaged the suspect in a gunfight that lasted for more than 10 minutes.
When the smoke cleared, the suspect ended up dead while Supt. Bruno and two of his police officers were wounded and were brought to the Bulacan Medical Center.
Police recovered one cal. 45 pistol with a magazine still loaded with live bullets and five grams of “shabu” from the suspect.
City Mayor Christian D. Natividad commended his policemen for their bravery in thwarting a drug-crazed suspect from inflicting harm on civilians.
“I salute our brave police officers. Armed criminals with intention to commit crime has no place in this city,” he said. Emil Gamos/PNA-northboundasia.com
