LAOAG CITY — Local authorities here are contemplating on passing a resolution to regulate drinking sprees among teenagers which are linked to the increasing number of vehicular accidents in the province.
Chief Inspector Angelito de Juan of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office-Investigation Section reported that since January 2017, there were 11 vehicular traffic incidents recorded, mostly in Laoag City which happened between 12 midnight to 4:00 am.
He added that most of these incidents involved minors who drive under the influence of liquor. Some were also found having no driver’s license.
Alarmed of this trend, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte is planning to draft a resolution or an ordinance to implement drinking curfew or limit the selling of alcoholic beverages to minors.
Members of the Philippine National Police and the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office had raised this issue as they provided some inputs to the Ilocos Norte board on how to find a better solution to this problem.
