DOT-CAR conducts consultation for Baguio tourism dev’t plan

BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR) , in partnership with Berkman International Consultancy, has conducted a consultation to formulate the Baguio Tourism Development Action Plan (BTDAP).

DOT-CAR regional director Venus Q. Tan on Friday said the consultation was attended by representatives from various stakeholders to include the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), Tarlac Pangasinan La Union Expressway (TPLEx), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the business sector.

Tan said the consultation was in compliance with Republic Act (RA) 9593 or the Tourism Act of 2009.

RA 9593 is an act declaring a national policy for tourism as an engine of investment, employment, growth and national development and strengthening the DOT.

It provides that tourism officers and the local government units (LGUs) shall prepare local tourism development plans, land use, infrastructure development and standards for tourism enterprises.

Tan said history professor Ian Morley of the Chinese University of Hong Kong presented his discussion to the participants, through Skype, a strategic plan entitled “Baguio and the Tourism Development Plan 2017-22: an urban historical perspective.” Tarla Tingal/
