PALO, Leyte –- Former Senator Panfilo Lacson asked politicians and voters to focus on the heroism of the 44 fallen members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) instead of using the Mamasapano clash issue to discredit Liberal Party candidates.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Lacson said the controversial police operation should not be politicized as this will not help family members move on from that fateful day.
“The public should preserve the nobility of what they did to take down the international terrorists. Instead of using it against the administration’s candidate, we should focus on their heroism and continue supporting their families,” Lacson said.
“Imagine how many lives would be lost if Marwan was not taken down since he’s an international terrorist.”
The former senator and PNP chief was in this town as guest of honor of the 25th Foundation Day celebration and commemoration of the heroism of the Gallant SAF 44.
The operation in Mamasapano, Maguinadanao was intended to capture or kill wanted Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulfkifli Abdhir alias Marwan.
Lacson commended the PNP-SAF for their “extraordinary heroism as they put their lives at stake for not leaving their comrades behind. “This is the reason why many of them died.”
He has called on the national government to fulfill all its promises to the families of SAF 44 since “they deserve all the help.” PNA / northboundasia.com
