DOH confirms a total of 23 Zika cases in PHL

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) said on Friday there are now a total of 23 cases of Zika in the country.

According to DOH Secretary Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial, there were 12 cases in Iloilo; three in Bacoor, Cavite; two in Mandaluyong City; and one each in Cebu, Muntinlupa, Antipolo, Quezon City, Calamba, and Las Pinas City.

“No deaths have been reported,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ubial said the case of the 22-year-old pregnant female in Cebu is under normal condition and proceeding well based on the continuous monitoring of her pregnancy.

The said pregnant woman has undergone regular ultrasound as part of the follow-up in her condition as well as that of her baby.

Zika is being linked to microcephaly condition wherein the baby’s head and brain can appear small like the cases seen in Brazil.
