CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — The DNA of one of the suspects in the gruesome killings of a family in Barangay Sto. Cristo here matched with the body swabs taken from one of the victims, the Bulacan Police Provincial Office (BPPO) announced on Friday afternoon.
In a press conference, Bulacan acting police director Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. considered the case closed as the results of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) testing on the submitted vaginal and buccal swabs including hair strands, fingernails were finally released by the Bulacan PNP Crime Laboratory on Friday morning.
Caramat said based on the report of Crime Laboratory Office, it is only Carmelino Ibanez alias “Miling” who was found positive on the DNA tests and the four persons of interest (POIs) tested negative.
Caramat was referring to the gruesome killing of Carlos family: Auring Dizon, Estrella Dizon-Carlos, Donni, 11, Ella, 7, and Dexter Jr., 1 year-old, who were found with multiple stab wounds by security guard and patriarch Dexter Carlos Sr. on June 27.
Ibanez’ DNA was found on the vaginal swabs taken from the body of Estrella based on the forensic examinations, he said.
The police director added that the results is a welcome development on the five counts of murder and two counts of rape cases filed against Ibanez by the City of San Jose Del Monte police office headed by Supt. Fitz Macariola before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
“If you remember, Ibanez or ‘Miling’ admitted his participation in the gruesome killing of Carlos family on June 28, 2017 in the presence of his immediate family inside their house which resulted to his eventual arrest. Likewise, he reiterated his admission regarding his participation on the crime during exclusive interviews with different news networks and mentioned alias “Inggo” (Rolando Pacinos) and alias “Tony” (Anthony Garcia) as his cohorts in perpetrating said crime,” Caramat said.
He also said that the two (Pacinos and Garcia) were considered as “persons of interest” (POIs).
The two other POIs alias Roosevelt Serema alias “Ponga” and Alvin Mabesa were mentioned by confidential informants.
Pacinos, Serema and Garcia have been found dead, one after the other recently.
Caramat said that at the very onset of the case, their investigation has been on the right direction, pointing that Ibanez is the prime suspect.
“Though Ibanez recanted his previous admission on his participation on the crime, the DNA results will definitely pin him down on this multiple murder case,” Caramat said.
Macariola said that based on the results of forensic examinations,the PNP Crime Laboratory discovered that there were two knives used in the grizzly crime.
Macariola said that one knife was used in stabbing Auring, Estrella, Ella and baby Dexter.
He said the forensic team headed by Chief Inspector Raul Ed DC Gatuz and Bulacan Medico Legal Chief Inspector Editha Martinez confirmed that another weapon, a different knife, was used in stabbing 11-year- old Donny, who sustained 14 stab wounds.
“Unfortunately, we have not recovered the other knife. But this means that there were more than one perpetrator in the crime,” Macariola said.
“We can safely say that this case is closed but we can open it anytime when evidence crops up,” he added.
Macariola said that the San Jose del Monte City police station will forward the results of the DNA tests and forensic investigation of the PNP Crime Laboratory to the City Prosecutors Office who will then file the case to the Bulacan Regional Court. Emil Gamos/PNA-northboundasia.com
