MANILA — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) encouraged all local government units (LGUs) to participate in the 1st Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday, to be spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento said Wednesday LGUs should also urge their constituents to support the social media campaign dubbed as #Pagyanig challenge.
#Pagyanig is the official hashtag of the NSED spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
Sarmiento said OCD’s #Pagyanig campaign aims to encourage the public to participate in the earthquake drill, and at the same time, educate them on the importance of preparedness against earthquake hazards.
“Mas mainam ang maging handa sa lindol o anumang sakuna. Makiisa tayo sa nationwide earthquake drill na gagawin sa buong bansa at sa #Pagyanig challenge ng OCD,” he said.
The DILG Secretary said LGUs with social media accounts are advised to take the #Pagyanig challenge by following these steps:
1. Like the OCD’s official facebook page: Civil Defense PH.
2. Show your commitment to the conduct of the 1st quarter NSED by posting a video saying :”I accept the #Pagyanig Challenge or a photo with the fan sign “I accept the #Pagyanig Challenge”.
3. Tag OCD on facebook and invite your friends to do the same.
4. On April 21, share your earthquake drill experience by posting your photo or video on social media doing the Duck, Cover, Hold with #Pagyanig.
The ceremonial launching of the drill will be at the Air Force City, Clark Airbase Pampanga on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. while OCD Regional Offices will lead the earthquake drills in their respective pilot areas. PNA/northboundasia.com
