LAOAG CITY — The Department of Tourism (DOT) is endorsing a village-initiated tourism project to invite more investors and tourists in Burgos town, one of Ilocos Norte’s major tourist destinations and home to the largest wind farm in Southeast Asia.
In Poblacion, village officials are pushing for the development of an Amianan tourism village, covering an area of 5,430 square meters along the national highway.
The lot was bought earlier by the barangay government unit sourced from its collection of real estate taxes, mostly from the PHP12.3-billion Burgos wind project of the Lopez-led Energy Development Corporation.
To encourage more investors, Poblacion village chief Joegie Jimenez bared plans to construct a multi-purpose building which can be offered for lease or commercial use.
At the back of the proposed Amianan village is a small water impounding project that would support the establishment of an organic farm, tilapia pond and in raising other homegrown fruits and vegetables.
Jimenez, a former Ilocos Norte tourism officer, dreams of attracting more visitors wanting to drop by for some refreshments or experience farm life.
Jimenez inspected the site following the recent visit of DOT Undersecretary Silvino Tejada in Ilocos Norte. He lauded the concept of the proposed Amianan tourism village and community center as he assured to endorse it to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) for possible funding.
Also present during the ocular inspection were Mayor Rodolfo Garcia and son, Vice Mayor Cresente Garcia, who both supported the project. PNA-northboundasia.com
