MANILA -– Muay thai bet Philip Delarmino kicked off the Philippines’ campaign in the 5th Asian Beach Games with a first-round victory on Wednesday at the Bien Dong Park in Danang City in Vietnam.
Delarmino defeated Resul Arasho of Turkmenistan on points, 30:27, in the round-of-16 of the men’s bantamweight 51-54 kg. division.
Delarmino’s next opponent will be Diyorbek Turumov of Uzbekistan, who had a first-round bye.
Peter Mark Bayaras and Arlyn Diez Ranes however failed to advance in their respective divisions.
Bayaras bowed to Jamal Madani of Iran by RSCB in the first round of the men’s featherweight 54-57 kg. division.
Ranes, on the other hand, lost to Singapore’s Cheryl Wei Ying Gwa by RSCB in the women’s light flyweight 45-48 kg. division quarterfinal round.
Two other Filipino bets, Jonathan Polosan and Jay Harold Gregorio, have yet to see action. Polosan is scheduled to meet Islam Asenbaev of Uzbekistan on Thursday in the light welterweight 60-63.5 kg. division, while Gregorio will face Ongar Baymuratov of Uzbekistan in the middleweight 71-75 kg. division on Friday.
