Death toll in ‘habagat’ onslaught now at 14

MANILA — The death toll for the ongoing “habagat” or southwest monsoon has now climbed to 14, the National Disaster Risk Response and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced in 8:00 p.m. Wednesday advisory.

The additional fatality was the fisherman who was previously reported missing in Barangay Calasaguen, Brooke’s Point, Palawan.

“The victim went fishing despite unfavorable weather and sea condition in Brgy. Calasaguen in Brooke’s Point on August 13,” the NDRRMC said.

Heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon also left eight persons missing while the wounded persons stood at six.

A total of 17,896 persons are still housed in evacuation centers.

A total of 262,271 persons were affected in CALABARZON, Western Visayas, National Capital Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The NDRRMC also reported that 24 roads are still not passable in the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and La Union. PNA/northboundasia.com
