MANILA — Ronnie Dayan, former driver-bodyguard of Senator Leila de Lima when she was Justice secretary during the Aquino administration, testified on Thursday that he collected drug kickbacks for his former boss from confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa back in 2014.
During the resumption of the House of Representatives Justice committee hearing, Dayan, who was arrested by the police in La Union last Tuesday, said he personally received the drug money from Kerwin himself on De Lima’s behalf.
Dayan said that at one instance, the money was placed in a small paper bag, adding that he only touched the money “softly” but did not count it.
“Ang perang ibinigay at iniabot sa akin ay nasa paper bag na maliit. Hindi ko na po binilang at hindi na rin sinabi sa akin ni Kerwin kung magkano yun. Basta eto na yung pera para kay ‘Ma’am’ (De Lima),” Dayan said in his affidavit which he read before the House Justice panel chaired by Rep. Reynaldo Umali.
Dayan said he personally handed over the money to De Lima at her residence, particularly in her room.
”Automatic na po yan kasi pag mga ganung pagkakataon… parang masasabi natin na sikreto, hindi ko na iniakyat sa office niya. Sa bahay na lang,” he said.
Dayan said Kerwin delivered the drug money five times in the following instances: the first time in August 2014, the second in October 2014, and the last three in November 2014.
Dayan said his first four meetings with Kerwin took place at a parking lot of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, while the last one was at the parking lot of Alexandria Residences in Baguio City last Nov. 19, 2014.
He also said he met Kerwin together with De Lima on Nov. 22, 2014. Filane Cervantes/PNA-northboundasia.com
