Dam breaches following powerful quake in New Zealand

WELLINGTON — A dam on the Clarence River breached on Monday, releasing a “large wall of water” after a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand.

Local residents were urged to move to higher ground after the dam, just north of Kaikoura, the epicenter of the quake on the northeast coast of the South Island, breached, Radio New Zealand reported. PNA/Xinhua-northboundasia.com
