Dagupan finalist for most child-friendly city award

DAGUPAN CITY – The city of Dagupan added another feather in its cap when it was declared as national finalist in the 2016 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez received a plaque of recognition from the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) during the Gawad Parangal held at the Rizal Hall in Malacañang Palace on Tuesday.

Handing her the plaque was Department of Social Welfare and Development officer in charge Undersecretary Emmanuel Leyco; CWC Executive Director Mary Mitzi Cajayon-Uy; Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Eduardo Año; and Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Maria Francia Laxamana.

President Rodrigo Duterte graced the conferment ceremony and delivered the keynote address.

Fernandez thanked the people of Dagupan for their continuing support for her administration that enabled Dagupan to become a finalist for the third time since 2014 in the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.

As finalist anew for this year, Dagupan City received PHP50,000 from the CWC.

Fernandez, after receiving the plaque of recognition, said, “It is with great measure of happiness, honor and satisfaction that I receive this conferment in behalf of the children of Dagupan.”

She added that the children of Dagupan are her “true source of indescribable joy”, adding that compassion and care drive her to work harder for children.

“We are self-motivated to pursue plans, programs, policies and projects for children because we believe that a city that takes care of its children takes care of the future,” said Fernandez.

Dagupan was earlier declared Most Child-Friendly City in the Ilocos region for the third consecutive time. PNA-northboundasia.com
