DAVAO CITY — A 14-year-old biker from Davao City captured the silver medal in the girl’s 37-kilometer road bike event Tuesday in the ongoing Batang Pinoy National Games in Danao City.

Myra Regina Acedo, a Grade 9 student of Sta. Ana National High School, finished second behind 15-year-old Aaliya Ricci Mataragnon of Olongapo City.

Veronica Lourds Deldio also of Olongapo took the bronze medal.

“Happy ako masyado kasi meron na akong iuuwing medalya sa Davao (I am very happy because I am going home to Davao with a medal),” said Acedo, who only started biking this year.

Acedo, a daughter of a couple selling “kakanin”, is a former basketball player of her school that also saw action in several tournaments including the Davao City Athletic Association Meet.

“Mag-focus na ako mula ngayon sa cycling sabi ni coach (Coach told me to focus on cycling from now on),” said Acedo, who was referring to Jojo Tan of Philcycling Davao.

Acedo also earlier saw action in the time trial and criterium but only placed 6th and 4th, respectively.

“Malaki ang potential ng batang ito kahit baguhan pa lamang siya dahil malakas ang loob (This child has big potential even if she is just a neophyte),” said team manager Salvador “Jun” Paholio Jr. PNA/LOLITO T. DELOS REYES
