BAGABAG, Nueva Vizcaya — The Department of Agriculture (DA) will turn over this month a multi-purpose heavy equipment and a dump truck to the members of the Nueva Vizcaya Federation of Irrigators Association(NVFIA) to maintain, repair and improve irrigation canals for the benefit of farmers in the province.
Celerina Miranda, DA provincial chief said the equipments were pledged by Secretary Manny Pinol during his visit to the Nueva Vizcaya Experimental Station(NVES) last month in this town.
“NVFIA officers requested these personally to our secretary and they were very fortunate because it was approved on that day,” she said.
Miranda said the multi-purpose heavy equipment will be used by the NVFIA to maintain, restore and improve the flow of more than 400 irrigation systems in the province and will also benefit more than 20,000 farmers.
Governor Carlos Padilla also said the provincial government provides continuing support and funding for the NVFIA through fuel subsidy to ensure agricultural productivity in the province.
“While we are small in quantity in terms of agricultural area, we are big in terms of the quality of our products which earned national awards and recognitions from the DA,” he said during Secretary Pinol’s visit. PNA/northboundasia.com
