SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The bed occupancy for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) referral hospitals in the Ilocos Region is still manageable amid the rising cases, according to the Department of Health office in Region 1 (DOH-1).
“Although we have observed the increase of Covid-19 cases in the region, our bed utilization rate is at 40 percent and still away from the critical level,” DOH-1 spokesperson Dr. Rheuel Bobis said. Based on the data of DOH-1, at least 1,512 beds are dedicated for Covid-19 patients wherein only 610 beds are occupied, he said in an interview on Wednesday. “
Before, we were ranging from 20 up to 30-percent occupancy rate but it has increased,” he added. Bobis said they are investigating if the rising cases are associated with the new Covid-19 variants.
“We encourage the public to religiously abide by the existing health protocols to prevent acquiring the virus,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pangasinan Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, in a separate interview, said hospitals in the province have already reached 80-percent bed occupancy for Covid-19 patients. PNA – northboundasia.com
