CORDILLERA LAWMEN BURN P109-M WORTH OF ILLEGAL MARIJUANA PLANTS

BAGUIO CITY – Cordillera anti-narcotics agents have reported that over P109- million worth of dried marijuana leaves including marijuana plants and seeds were either burned or confiscated and deprived the illicit illegal drugs market in Metro Manila.

The latest and the seventh marijuana plants eradication operation in the mountain region, still considered as the country’s biggest producer of the illegal weeds, took place in sitio Aluling, barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet over the weekend.

In this operation, Cordillera anti-narcotics agents and the local policemen burned at least 52,400 fully grown marijuana plants; 2,000 marijuana seedlings; 100,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and 5,000 grams of marijuana seeds.

PDEA-Cordillera Director Juvenal Azurin said that the haul had an estimated value of P23-million that were all sourced from seven cultivation sites with an approximated land area of 6,502 square meters.

Meanwhile, La Union anti-narcotics agents and local policemen burned over P11-million worth of marijuana plants in 16 marijuana plantation sites in several sitios in barangay Sapdaan in Santol town.

A belated report said that at least 41,600 marijuana seedlings and 700 grams of dried marijuana leaves were also torched down by the authorities. THOM PICANA/northboundasia.coma
