Cordillera Cops Seize P3.7-million Worth of Marijuana

CAMP DANGWA, LA TRINIDAD, Benguet —The intensified campaign against illegal drugs in the Cordillera region proved its efficiency with the confiscation of P3.7- million worth of dried marijuana leaves and the arrest of three persons transporting the contraband.

Acting on a tip, the police arrested the suspects at a checkpoint at Barangay Sinto, Bauko, Mountain Province. They were identified as John Cario Orille Reynera, 19, construction worker; Kerwin Ulanday Ortega, 22; and Angelito Puedan Dilao, 19, all residents of Sampaloc, Manila. They were on-board a Rising Sun Bus which came from Bontoc and bound for Baguio City when the vehicle was flagged down by the police.

In another operation, Silverio S. Juan was arrested in his residence at Purok Guinto, Poblacion East, Flora, Apayao in the early morning of March 24 for keeping firearms and ammunition without pertinent documents. Seized from Juan were a cal.45 pistol, 17 live bullets for cal. ,45 pistol; 18 fired cartridge case of cal 45; and a long firearm flash suppressor.

In the relentless drive against illegal gambling, La Trinidad cops apprehended Raul Pataweg Bantiyan, 30, a resident of Atok, Benguet, while in the act playing card games in a building near Kollebeng Refilling Station at Upper Tomay here last March 24, while his two companions evaded arrest. Confiscated were playing cards and bet money in different denominations amounting to P1,200.00.

Regional Director Chief Supt.Elmo Sarona said that all the suspects are now in police custody while appropriate charges are being readied for filing in court.

“We vow to keep the community safe and will intensify police operations against all forms of criminal activities especially illegal drugs in all parts of the region,”  Sarona said. Thom Picana/Northbound Philippines News
