Cordillera cops seize firearms in separate operations; 2 nabbed


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –- Policemen in the Cordillera Region scored in the seizure of several long and short firearms and live ammunition in separate operations on different days during the week, Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) Regional Director Elmo Francis Sarona said in a report on Wednesday.

Kalinga police arrested Raymond Liwagan Dangiwan, 25, farmer and a resident of Asibanglan, Pinukpuk, Kalinga and Calanan, Tabuk City for illegal possession of a 9mm caliber Daewoo pistol with magazine loaded with 13 live ammunition.

For the same offense, Sandy Balmaceda Tan, 42, farmer, resident of Barangay Bulbulala, La Paz, Abra was arrested after policemen responded to a call that the said person was holding a Gauge 12 Armscor shotgun while on a drinking session.

Both suspects were charged for illegally possessing firearms without the pertinent papers.

Also in Abra, two gun curators who were subjects of surveillance by law enforcers for possession of various firearms led to the confiscation of assorted guns following the service of search warrants at their residence in Barangay Pang-ot, Labagan town.

The service of search warrant yielded one shotgun; one M16 rifle; 224 pieces of live ammunition and 9 pieces of assorted magazines for M16; 11 pieces grenade ammunition for M203; one caliber 45 pistol with two magazine and eight pieces of live ammunition for caliber 45; and 2 bandoliers.

Sarona said that one of the suspects placed under surveillance is a member of the Guzman Group which is involved in gun-for-hire activities in Abra. Liza Agoot/
