COPS FOIL COLLEGE STUDENTS IN ILLEGAL MARIJUANA SALE

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union-Three persons, two of them college students, were arrested in Lower Bimmotobot in Naguilian town in an anti-illegal drug operation conducted by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, in cooperation with the Phil. Drug Enforcement Agency-Region I and the Naguilian police early Friday.

Supt. Richard Verceles identified the suspects as Filmer Punasen, 19, of Barangay Bayabas, San Gabriel; Jefferson Bakasen, 23, of Barangay Tioangan, Bagulin, both college students; and Antonio Nisperos, 31, of Barangay Lower Bimmotobot.

Verceles said that the suspects were apprehended at a checkpoint in Naguilian on board a hired tricycle loaded with 14 square and two pipe bricks of dried marijuana leaves. The suspects admitted that the dried marijuana leaves would be transported to Metro Manila, where it would be sold.

The tip on the illegal marijuana was given by an informant to the Provincial Intelligence Bureau.

Three weeks ago, the CIDG arrested a certain Kenneth Peralta, an 18-year-old drug courier, who allegedly supplied dried marijuana leaves to students in a public national high school and tricycle drivers in San Fernando City,
