COMELEC STARTS ACCEPTING REQUESTS FOR VCM DEMO

MANILA — In preparation for its voter education campaign starting next month, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is inviting groups to submit their requests for the demonstration of the Voter Counting Machines (VCMs) which will be utilized in the May 2016 elections.

According to Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez, they are starting to accept requests from the public, as early as now, for them to know more about the machines and prepare them on the use of the VCM in connection with the forthcoming polls.

“This early, pwede nang mag-request ng VCM demo para sa mga organizations,” he said.

Interested parties may send requests through this email, aesdemonstration@gmail.com.

“Please send an email to aesdemonstration@gmail.com. Please include the name of the requesting person or organization, the proposed date of demo, venue and location as well as full contact information,” Jimenez said.

He also reminded the people to include any specific request. “Kunwari sabihin mo medyo malaki group ninyo, please bring enough sample ballots, also indicate that as well. The full contact info will be used to coordinate the demo with the requesting party.”

He noted that requests will be forwarded to Comelec local offices, which will coordinate with the group who requests for the demo.

“What’s important to note is that the demo will be diverted to the closest unit possible, which means if you are requesting from Palawan, then the request will be diverted to the Palawan office of Comelec and they will be the ones who will be responsible for coordination with the requesting party,” Jimenez explained.

The poll body official added that they want to start early so that they could plan the schedules.
