Classes suspended Friday in Tacloban, Ormoc

 

TACLOBAN CITY — Classes were suspended in the cities of Ormoc and Tacloban on Friday, June 7, after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Leyte and neighboring provinces Thursday (June 6) afternoon.

Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez and Tacloban City Mayor Cristina Romualdez issued separate executive orders on suspension of classes in their areas.

Gomez said “there is a pressing need to ensure structural integrity of buildings in Ormoc City – especially those in public and private educational institutions.”

He also ordered personnel of the City Building Office to inspect all buildings in Ormoc and submit a written report this afternoon, June 7.

In the executive order of Romualdez, she ordered the city disaster risk reduction management council and the city engineering office to conduct assessment on structural integrity of buildings especially schools. Roel Amazona/PNA-northboundasia.com
