Classes in all levels, work in gov’t offices suspended in Nueva Ecija on Monday

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Governor Cherry Umali, upon the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), declared the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools in the province on Monday.

Likewise, work in all government offices were suspended, except for those responsible for disaster risk reduction management and operations where they are required to maintain skeletal forces in their respective office.

Umali said the cancellation of classess and work in government offices is mainly due to the critical water levels and conditions of the Upper Pampanga River in the areas of Laur, Bongabon, Gabaldon towns; Santor River, Penaranda River and other tributaries in the towns of Talugtug and Cuyapo.

Director Abraham Pascua, Nueva Ecija PDRRMC spokesperson, said that typhoon Karen rendered some roads in the province impassable due to landslide and floodings.

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Labi Bridge in Barangay Labi,Bongabon section of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora road is not passable to all types of vehicles due to washout bridge approach.

The Nanduran Spillway of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora road is also not passable to all types of vehicles due to strong current of water.

Other roads not passable to all types of vehicle are the Km 153+800 to 154+100 section of the Tablang-Gabaldon Road; and Langawan Detour Bridge of Gabaldon-Dingalan Road.
